Founded in 1926, the Diablo Nippongo Gakuen (Japanese School) has a long tradition of teaching Japanese language and culture to school-aged children in the East Bay.
We have educated more than 1,000 students and currently hold six classes for children in kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition, classroom ready pre-K students are also accepted on a case-by-case basis. Classes are held on Saturdays from September through May from 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
We are a cooperative school, run and managed by an all-volunteer board. Parent participation is essential to our continued vitality and success.
WELCOME TO THE GAKUEN!
COVID 19 Update (updated 3/30/2020)
As we learned this week of schools closed until May 1st at Contra Costa, the board has come to the realization that gakuen may have to be closed until the end of the school year. We are looking at all the ramifications that come with a decision like this and understand that the student and staff safety and well-being come first.
With that being said, we are still looking at some type of on-line learning situation and how it will impact students and their families; the teachers are supportive of providing that on-line learning experience in lie of these unprecedented times until the end of the school year and have even begun reaching out to students to jump start the on-line home learning experience. As always, we welcome any questions, comments or concerns of this or any situation regarding the virus.
